Cadaqués & Cap de Creus

There is a reason Salvador Dalí chose Cadaqués. The village sits at the end of a road that winds for 26 kilometres through pine-covered hills — accessible enough to be lived in, remote enough to be left alone by history. From the sea, the approach is theatrical: the white houses stack up the hillside above a stone harbor, the baroque church of Santa Maria crowns the ridge, and the turquoise water in the bay is so still it mirrors the rooftops. You arrive the way fishermen have arrived for centuries. The boat anchors in the bay or ties up at the village quay. Guests have two to three hours ashore to explore the maze of narrow lanes, visit the Dalí house at Port Lligat (advance booking required), and eat at one of the small restaurants along the waterfront — the local anchovy, cured in sea salt and olive oil, is outstanding. On the return leg, the boat follows the coastline through Cap de Creus natural park, threading between the extraordinary rock formations that so clearly inspired the painter's dreamscapes.
