At around six in the evening the Costa Brava's famous tramuntana light softens into gold, and the limestone cliffs that line the coast catch the sun at an angle that makes them glow amber, then copper, then rose. This is the hour to be on the water. Leaving the jetty at Aiguablava, the boat curves southward past Cap Sa Sal and Tamariu, finding a sheltered anchorage in a cove with nothing between you and the horizon but open sea. Guests receive a bottle of chilled Catalan cava — Penedès DO, selected by the skipper — and soft music plays as the sun descends. The water turns from turquoise to deep violet, the pine-covered headlands become silhouettes, and the lighthouse at Llafranc flickers on. The return journey is made by twilight, with coastal village lights strung along the shore and the Pyrenees fading behind the darkening hills. Duration approximately 2.5 hours, anchoring for a swim before sunset at a private cove.
