The rust-red islet of Illa Roja is one of the most recognisable shapes on this coast, with rich snorkelling around its base and shallow turquoise all around.
Illa Roja is a striking rust-red islet rising straight out of the sea off a quiet stretch of sand. Its colour and rounded shape make it one of the most recognisable landmarks on the Costa Brava, and the turquoise shallows all around it are unmistakable from a distance.
The water around the islet is rich for snorkelling, with rock, light and fish gathered at its foot. We anchor in the shallows nearby for a swim and the day's best landmark photo — the red rock against impossibly blue water.
